Whenever I try to talk friends and acquaintances into the possibility of being able to make money online, I am often hit with a plethora of direct questions. Questions that, given different circumstances, should have a straight-forward answer.
I get questions like…
How long did it take before you got your first sale?
This is a direct question I have an answer to. The problem though is the intent behind the question. They are not particularly interested in knowing how long it took to get my first sale, they want to know so they can set a timer clocking down to their first sale.
Another one is…
How much money do you earn online?
My first instinct is always “mind your business”. But I am the one pitching a potential opportunity to them, so I have an obligation to keep my emotions in check. I always tell them that there is no fixed amount you will be earning per month. You earn more in some months, less in other months but the level of your earnings are largely up to you.
Because I like odd numbers, a third one…
If I work on my website for 3 hours, how long will it take for me to earn $10,000 a month?
These questions do not surprise me. For people who could not even fathom the existence of an opportunity to make money online, I would expect no less. It is completely understandable because due to the number of scams online, it has become increasingly difficult to convince people to trust investments on the internet.
A couple of hard truths are coming your way soon enough. Read them, let them sink in, and you will be a few steps closer to achieving the success you desire online.
And who does not want to move towards success online?
1 – No One Can Tell How Much You Will be Earning
I cannot tell you how much you will earn. You do not even know how you will earn. What you should know though is how much you would like to earn, so you can work towards it. Goals are really important when it comes to growing a business.
It is only in an hourly-paid job you can calculate how much your paycheck will be. You work X hours at $Y/hour, so your paycheque will be $XY. It isn’t that simple with an online business though. In fact, it is more complicated in any kind of business.
Business comes with a lot of extra factors like who decides to buy from you, who you are able to reach, demand etc. What you earn from your business in January, could be 100% more or less than what you earn in February. That is the reality of running a business. Earnings are not typical.
Moving forward, you will have to dispel this notion that “Time equals Money”
Time and Money are related, not equal!
2 – You’re Gonna Have to Work Hard
I have spoken to a lot of people that have been victims of scams online. There appears to be a common theme around their thinking – They believe(d) in the possibility of “easy” money. You can quote what I am about to say now.
There is NO such thing as “easy” money.
Not legitimately anyway. Let that ring again and again in your mind. Replay it, understand it, and then accept it.
The next time you see that poster that says “Pay $10 and get $3000 in a day”, you should know it is either a downright scam or there are a lot of things more they are not telling you. If it is not a downright scam, they could provide you with training that could earn you $3000 a day. Either way, they baited you into paying $10 without giving you any information on what they were really offering you.
To be successful online, you must WORK HARD! Common sense would suggest this is obvious, but the rate at which people fall for the most ridiculous scams makes me not so sure how obvious it is anymore.
Building a successful business online from scratch requires a lot of hours (many of which might not be rewarded with money especially in the early phase), niche research, a LOT of continuous learning, patience, and content writing.
The interesting thing about it is you get to work hard at something you love. The best view of building a business online is to see your effort as a passion, rather than as work. People tend to do work grudgingly, as opposed to carrying out your passion naturally.
You can make a ton of money online, but you sure as hell have to work hard!
3 – Making Money Online is Actually Simple
Wait, what? What happened to “there’s no easy money”?
Making money online is SIMPLE, not EASY.
The reality is there are only 4 steps involved in making money online. In order, here they are:
- Choose a niche
- Build a Website
- Get traffic, through relevant content
- Monetize your site
That is all. But is it easy to do these 4 things? Heck no! If it was easy, no one would ever have to fall for any fake online “opportunities” ever again.
As I mentioned here, you are going to need a few things to achieve these four steps. These things are:
- A website
- Readily Available Support
- Access to a LOT of Training

I hope this clears things up for a lot of people who have the mainstream community way of thinking. I strongly believe that what poses as the biggest box to the achievements anyone can attain, is possessing the wrong mentality.
I loved the IDEA of leveraging good opportunities online to make money from the first time I heard of it. There is crazy potential to earn crazy income online.
Think of an income figure that seems insane in your mind right now. What if I said it is very feasible to earn that number online? You just have to put in a lot of work. The crazier your income goals are, the more you will have to work on yourself and your online business. The same principles apply to offline businesses as well. You gotta work.
I have had enough conversations to realize that even though anyone can attain success online, not everyone would do it. Some people are not cut out for building websites, writing posts and all that. Some just do not have the patience. I have to respect that.

I love that making money online can be very simple yet it does take commitment and effort. So when the sales start to come in, it means all that much more. Everytime I get a purchase, I feel very proud of myself.
That’s the thing with earning money online: It’s not an issue of someone promising you $10,000 in a month. A lot of people miss out on the excitement of earning that $10,000 a month from a business you established yourself through hard work.

Making online can be simple but also very time consuming and it takes a while. That’s the truth. As long as you don’t give up and follow the right advice you should be fine. Making money online isn’t about short cuts. Its about hard work, wanting it and being dedicated. Just like you said – Anybody can do it if they are willing to do the work.

I completely agree with you. Everything would be so much easier if people could see making money online the same way they see running a business. There might be shortcuts to being successful in a business, but there is always a much higher chance that shortcuts will lead to failure and regret. The same principles of business apply everywhere, regardless of medium. The proper way to make money online is not to source for shortcuts, the same way the proper method of making money outside the internet is not to beg for it.
I see this online business idea as an opportunity anyone could exploit, but not everyone would be willing to. Some understandably due to a lack of interest in writing and computer stuff, others due to skepticism and reluctance to leave their comfort zone.
