What is Amazon Prime Student and is it worth it? Is it a scam? This review tells you all about the benefits of Amazon Student and if it’s worth it.
Amazon Prime Student Review
PRODUCT NAME: Amazon Prime Student
Price: 6-Month Free Trial, then $49 per year
Website: www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info
Overall Ranking: 98/100
Verdict: Legit
**Only students currently enrolled in U.S and Puerto Rican colleges are eligible to participate in Amazon.com’s Prime Student offer. If you are a student in Canada, click here to get Amazon.ca’s Prime Student offer.
Before we go deep into things here, it is NOT a scam. I also want to address the question in the title: Is Amazon Prime Student worth it?
Considering it is completely free for the first 6 months, I think the real question is: How could Amazon Prime Student not be worth it? Prime Student is a modified version of the Amazon Prime Membership where you get almost all Prime benefits free for the first 6 months and after that, you become a full Amazon Prime member at a 50% discount.
I already think $99 per year for the Amazon Prime Membership is well worth it, so would I take almost the same thing free for 6 months and get the exact thing for $49 per year after? Heck yes!
Because this is free for the first 6 months and you can decide to cancel at any point, I think Prime Student is well worth it. However, it’s worth becomes relative and could vary from person to person after 6 months. After 6 months, you will have to decide if Amazon Prime is worth $49 to you.
In this post, we will be discussing what benefits you will be getting with your Free Amazon Prime Student membership.
Free 2-Day Shipping
Considering how often I order from Amazon, this is huge! Because I school in Canada, I could only get the Prime Student offer on Amazon.ca which is not nearly as loaded as Amazon.com. However, this free 2-day shipping alone was enough to convince me to pay $99 per year for an Amazon Prime membership.
In your case, you get free 2-day shipping without having to pay a single dime for the first 6 months and after that, you get to pay half of what I pay for this benefit and much more.
Remember that not all items offer 2-day shipping, but all items that offer Prime benefits do. Another thing you should know is that you do not need to be a Prime Student to get free shipping. If you spend $35 or more, you could qualify for free standard shipping (not 2-day) whereas as a Prime Student member, you can get free 2-day shipping on an item that costs even 10 cents.
You kill two birds with one stone here. You cut out those annoying shipping costs and you do not have to wait anxiously for your order to arrive.
Prime Instant Video
I don’t know about you but I LOVE movies and tv shows. Before my courses started to get hard and my workload got tight, I had about 40 shows I was actively watching.
If you are anything like me, you will be fascinated by the idea of getting Prime Instant Video. Who wouldn’t want to get just as many movies and tv shows as Netflix without having to pay the Netflix monthly fee? It is also accessible on TVs, computers, tablets, game consoles and so on…Just like Netflix. You can take a sneak peek around to see what’s available on Prime Instant Video, without having to sign up to anything.
In my case, I still pay for Netflix because of House of Cards and Marco Polo. These are Netflix originals and are not available on Prime Instant Video. If you can live without some exclusive Netflix shows, you will not feel shortchanged by using Prime Instant Video. You might even enjoy the Amazon original, Transparent, which has won numerous awards.
Prime Photos
To be honest, I’m not really excited about this feature. Prime Photos is an unlimited cloud-based storage service where you can store only photos. I know for sure that Google Photos does the exact same thing Prime Photos does and they do it so much better too.
Having said that, you are not paying for it so no qualms there.
Exclusive Deals & Promotions
Amazon delivers exclusive deals and discounts straight to your inbox. They also keep you in the loop about early releases of stuff they feel you might be interested in as a student. Things like textbook and video game releases and discounts.
Amazon Prime Student vs. Regular Amazon Prime
A Prime Student membership gives you free 2-day shipping, Prime Instant Video, Prime Photos and personalized deals while the regular Amazon Prime membership gives you access to everything you get with the Prime Student membership plus Amazon Music, Kindle benefits like Kindle Owners’ Lending Library and more stuff like Audible Channels and Amazon Pantry.
Eligibility Requirements
To participate in the Prime Student offer, you must
- Be an Amazon.com member
- Be actively enrolled in at least one course in a college located in the United States or Puerto Rico
- Be able to provide proof of enrollment upon request
Again is it worth it?
If you think about how much you would spend in 6 months on just shipping from Amazon and add the $48 you would spend on Netflix for 6 months, it looks to me to be worth it.
Depending on what you order and your personal preferences on what you like to watch, an Amazon Student membership could easily wipe out those costs completely for 6 months. After six months, you will pay $49 a year for the complete Amazon Prime package which is just $1 more than you would have paid to have Netflix for 6 months.
If you are still unsure, that is completely okay. You can sign up for the free trial, enjoy the benefits for 6 months and if you don’t like it after that, you can cancel. What do you have to lose?
You can actually MAKE money with Amazon!
I have shown you why I think Amazon Student is a good deal that SAVES you money but now I want to show you two ways you could make money with Amazon:
- Refer your friends, classmates and family to Amazon Prime Student and get a $10 referral credit. You can do this by sharing your unique Amazon referral link on social media or by using their email form.
- You can be an affiliate of Amazon. Let’s talk more about this…
The idea of being an affiliate is somewhat similar to referring your friends and family. The difference, in this case, is that you will be referring other people that are not your friends and family. In fact, you are not allowed to refer your family and friends as an affiliate of Amazon.
Basically, you recommend (or not) a product and if someone makes a purchase through your unique link, you get a commission. Being an affiliate of Amazon could be very rewarding because they have the largest collection of products anywhere on the internet and they have one of the longest standing affiliate programs.
I have been able to earn a nice amount of passive income from Amazon over the last few months. I even earned enough to cover my college tuition (International Student Tuition!) and I know a lot of students will be interested in earning some extra cash from the internet.
If you are interested in learning how to legitimately make from Amazon or the internet in general, check out my top recommendation. It is FREE to sign up.
